Oak Island NC 10/12-10/18 2019

Our first stop on our trek back to California was at one of our favorite places - Oak Island.  Linda's family gathers here every summer and we attend that gathering as often as we can.  It is a different kind of place in the fall when the tourist season is over.  Not so many people and much cooler weather.  We walked on the beach with the doggies every morning and every evening.  We usually rent a house on the beach to be close to all the family on the summer trips but this time we just stayed at the Oak Island Campground which is just on the other side of the bridge going to the island. Nothing special, but full hook-ups and clear for satellite.

We were lucky to have Linda's sister, Micki, visit for the first 3 days we were here.  She has a house that she rents from friends and allowed both of us and our dogs to join her there.  We enjoyed the beach, played Mexican Train dominoes and had some good food together.
The dogs got comfortable in the house right away!

While Micki was still there we made a trip over to Southport and had the traditional lunch at The Provision Company.  This is the only time ever that Linda has shrimp or any shellfish as she is allergic to them.  But because it is all so fresh she is able to tolerate it for one meal - something she looks forward to for a year or two between visits!

The rest of our time was spent walking on the beach with the dogs.  It is soul-cleansing and something we would do every day of our lives if we were able.  Here are some pics from those excursions.  Oak Island faces south on the Atlantic Ocean and it is one of the few places where you can see both the sunrise and the sunset on the same beach.  You will see several sunsets here as we never did get up early enough for a sunrise!

Pablo admiring someone's castle building skill.  Of course, he wanted to pee on it, but I did not let him...
