Maine 09/24-09/28 2019

We finally made it to Maine in the far north corner of the country!  We will visit New Hampshire and Vermont next week and then Florida in November to complete our map with all of the lower 48!

We started our visit to Maine in Wells, which is on the southern coast, about 25 miles north of Portsmouth and right next to Kennebunkport.  We stayed at Sea-Vue West RV Park, located just a mile or so from the main town and the beaches.  It was a very nice park with huge sites and a great dog park back in the woods.  No mosquitoes that we noticed either!

We had a wonderful walk on Drakes Island Beach.  The weather maybe just a little warmer than we like but still great.  The beach here was very flat and wide.  Most of the tourists were gone so we had it pretty much to ourselves.  There are some beautiful homes here - mostly in the typical New England style.

Our favorite place for breakfast in Wells was Congdon's Doughnuts.  But don't let the "doughnuts" fool you.  We had lobster Benedict that was absolutely delicious.  And of course, we also got a few donuts (and apple fritters) to go!
Lobster Benedict for John!

Irish Benedict (corned beef hash) for Linda!
Our final destination was Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.  We stayed at the Bar Harbor/Oceanside KOA.  We were supposed to have an Oceanside site with 50 amps but wound up in a site across the road from the water that was very un-level with no sewer and only 30 amps.  It was OK and the view at sunset was beautiful.

We had to go into town (Bar Harbor) to go to the post office so I could Express Mail a contract (starting a new business - more on that later).  So after that we toured around the waterfront and got some lunch.  Guess what?  More lobster rolls!  Ha ha!  Here is some more "food porn" for you:
Linda found another local brew...

BLT Lobster Roll - lobster with bacon and tomato!

Fish and chips

Also got some ice cream.  OMG!  I've turned INTO a LOBSTER!

The next day we took the doggies to Acadia National Park.  We hiked from Sand Beach to Thunder Hole which was about 3 miles round trip.  It was absolutely beautiful.  Started out a bit cool but at the end was just slightly warm.

Everywhere we went with the doggies, they got mobbed by admirers from all over the world.  They were so sweet and had such great manners with everyone.  We were very proud of them.
Our starting point for the hike - Sand Beach.

A little rest at Thunder Hole before heading back to Sand Beach

Notice the lobster boat in the bottom left!

Beautiful big house across the water - It is outside the National Park.

Jordan Pond.  I would call it a lake!

The town of Bar Harbor is on the right - you can just see the top of a cruise ship over the island in the middle.

The edges of these leaves were just starting to turn

They have a wonderful program for dogs at Acadia.  If they register and complete the requirements, they can become official "Bark Rangers".  Our guys did well and got their official Bark Ranger certificates and tags!  Such good doggies!

Foxboro/Boston Mass 09/22-09/23 2019

We had a pretty short travel day from Mystic Connecticut to Foxboro Massachusetts.  We stayed at the Normandy Farms RV Resort which is only a couple of miles from Gillette stadium where the New England Patriots play.  It was a very nice park that deserves to be called a resort.

They also had a really nice dog park but we did not get over there.  It was quite a walk and Pablo had a sore foot again.  We used the "blue stuff" on it and also soaked it in Epsom salts and it got better right away.  But while we were here, he had to take it easy.

We also took a little tour into Boston.  We drove to the station at Riverside and then rode the subway into the city.  We got off the subway at Boston Commons and purchased tickets for the hop on/hop off trolley.  Before we boarded the trolley we got some lunch at Legal Crossing and I had my first lobster roll.  It was delicious!  And very good chowder too.
